How it works

AMC bonds, in plain terms

A registration prerequisite that mainly protects the appraisers on the panel.

Who needs one

Any company that maintains a panel of appraisers and assigns work on behalf of lenders — the AMC registration requirement flows from Dodd-Frank and is administered state by state.

What it protects

Primarily the appraisers: non-payment for completed assignments is the most common claim. It also covers consumers and lenders harmed by an AMC violating state appraisal law.

How the amount is set

By state statute. Most set a flat figure per registration, so the price is known before you apply — each state page shows it.
