About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A public adjuster bond is a policyholder-protection guarantee. You negotiate insurance claims on behalf of people who've just had the worst week of their year — Minnesota wants a financial backstop that you'll handle their claims and their money honestly.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Minnesota (the obligee), with your clients as the protected parties. If an adjuster fails to promptly pay over amounts received, or a client suffers loss from fraud, dishonesty, forgery, or theft in connection with the adjuster's duties, the harmed party can recover against the bond.

The bond must stay in effect for the term of your license. Let it lapse and you can be referred for action against the license — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $10,000 filing continuous.

Minn. Stat. 72B.041Minnesota Statutes 72B.041 conditions a public adjuster license on a $10,000 surety bond on file with the commissioner of commerce, with the State of Minnesota as obligee. The bond is conditioned for the prompt payment of amounts received by the adjuster and to protect any person from loss resulting from fraud, dishonesty, forgery, or theft in connection with the adjuster's duties, and must remain in effect during the term of the license.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Minnesota public adjuster bond?
The premium is $100, set by our carrier's rate book for this fixed $10,000 bond, the same for every adjuster. The $10,000 is set by statute; the price you see is the checkout price.
Do I pay the $10,000?
No. You pay $100. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond?
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many adjusters finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check?
The application collects no credit information for this bond, and most applications approve instantly. If a check ever runs, it's a soft pull that won't affect your credit score.
When does it renew?
The bond must stay in effect for the term of your license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
