The bond a Wyoming mortgage lender or broker maintains to the State under W.S. 40-23-110, covering the loan originators it employs or contracts with. Since January 1, 2010 the penal sum has been set by rule of the banking commissioner based on your volume of business, so you enter the amount your NMLS record requires. The premium is 0.6% of the bond amount, $100 minimum, it issues the moment you pay, and any credit screen is a soft pull only, never a hard inquiry.

No quote round-trip — enter your amount, pay, and attach the executed bond to your NMLS record. Here is the whole thing:
Business details, your state of formation, the penal sum your license requires, an effective date, and a term. That is the entire application — any credit screen is a soft pull that never shows as a hard inquiry.

Wyoming licenses mortgage lenders and brokers through the Division of Banking under the Residential Mortgage Practices Act, and all license activity runs through NMLS. W.S. 40-23-110(a) requires all licensees to maintain a surety bond to the state of Wyoming, and the statute is explicit that the bond is used to cover the individual loan originators employed by or under contract with the licensee.
The amount is not a single statewide number. W.S. 40-23-110(a)(i) set it at $25,000 through the end of 2009; since January 1, 2010 subsection (a)(ii) has the banking commissioner establish it by rule based on the volume of business the licensee transacts. Your NMLS license record states the penal sum currently required — enter that amount and the price follows it.
If the licensee or someone it employs violates the Act, a rule or order under it, or federal mortgage lending law and damages a person, the bond is forfeited and paid to the State of Wyoming for that person's benefit, up to the face amount. It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays, you repay the surety. The bond is continuous until the commissioner releases it in writing, and otherwise expires two years after your license is surrendered, revoked, or expires.
These are the actual issuing fields — business details, your state of formation, the penal sum, an effective date, and a term.
