The City of Wichita Falls's Building and Code Administration office registers contractors annually and requires a Code Compliance Bond as a condition of registration, offered in three amounts — $25,000, $50,000, and $100,000 — sized to the scope of work the city places you in. It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Wichita Falls (the obligee), protecting the city and the public if a registered contractor's work fails to comply with the International Codes the city enforces. Registration itself is unlawful to operate without, under the city's ordinance adopting those codes.
