What the conduct bond actually guarantees
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) requires certain permit applicants and holders to file a conduct surety bond under Alcoholic Beverage Code §11.11. The bond states on its face that the holder will not violate a law of the state relating to alcoholic beverages, or a rule of the commission, during the permit period.
The standard amount is $5,000, rising to $10,000 if the premises is within 1,000 feet of a public school. The bond requirement applies to permits issued under the chapters §11.11 names (such as Chapters 25, 28, and 32) — confirm whether your permit type and location require it on your TABC paperwork.
There's a notable exemption: a permit holder who has held a permit for three years or more, has not had a license or permit revoked in the prior five years, and has continuously operated on the premises, is not required to furnish the bond at renewal. When required, we issue it from $100, and the application collects no credit information.
