About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A professional fund raiser bond is a donor-and-charity protection guarantee. You solicit contributions on behalf of charitable organizations for compensation — the state wants a financial backstop that you'll conduct those solicitations honestly and account for the money you handle.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the People of the State of New York (the obligee), with charities and donors as the protected parties. The bond stands for the benefit of anyone with a cause of action for malfeasance or misfeasance in the conduct of a solicitation.

Registration is annual — the Charities Bureau renews professional fund raiser registrations each year, and the bond is maintained alongside it. We track your term and notify you 60 and 30 days out, so your registration never lapses over paperwork.

NY registration requirementThe $10,000 bond is required to register as a professional fund raiser under Executive Law Article 7-A (§§173, 173-a), filed with the Attorney General's Charities Bureau on Form CHAR015 alongside the CHAR013 registration.

You need this bond if you're

Registering as a professional fund raiser — the bond is filed with your Charities Bureau registration
Renewing your annual registration and your bond is expiring or your surety non-renewed
A professional solicitor with custody of contributions who must post the bond under Article 7-A
An out-of-state fundraiser soliciting on behalf of New York charities

Five minutes. The whole thing.

These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

Why is the price exactly $300? +
Honest answer: the bond amount is fixed at $10,000 by statute, and our flat rate is 3% — so 3% of $10,000 is $300. That's above the $275 minimum premium that applies to smaller bonds, so the minimum never kicks in. We show the math because nobody should wonder where the number came from.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Registration bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many fundraisers finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount registration bonds don't need one.
When does it renew? +
Professional fund raiser registration with the Charities Bureau is annual, so the bond is maintained year to year. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available so your registration never lapses over a missed email.
Do professional solicitors need this too? +
If you're a professional solicitor who takes custody of charitable contributions, Article 7-A requires you to post the bond as well. The amount and the five-minute process are the same — apply below and file it with your registration.
