What the bond actually guarantees
Chubbuck licenses security officers, private investigators, and the businesses and agencies that employ them under City Code Chapter 5.24. Before any license issues, City Code 5.24.050 requires a surety bond filed with the City Clerk, conditioned on the licensee's faithful and honest conduct and on holding the City harmless for the licensee's acts.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Chubbuck (the obligee), with anyone injured by a licensee's wilful, malicious, or wrongful act able to bring an action directly on the bond. The agency-level bond is set at $10,000; an individually licensed guard or investigator files a lower $5,000 bond instead.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Chubbuck licenses under this chapter run on a calendar year and expire December 31, so we track the renewal date and notify you ahead of the deadline to keep the bond continuous — City Code 5.24.050 also warns that if the bond lapses, the license is automatically forfeited.
