About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Florida licenses RV manufacturers, distributors, importers, and van converters through the DHSMV under Chapter 320 of the Florida Statutes. The bond is a consumer-and-dealer-protection guarantee: it stands behind your compliance with the manufacturer/distributor obligations in Chapters 319 and 320 — title, warranty, and the franchise-related duties that protect dealers and buyers.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and the State of Florida together with harmed parties. If a manufacturer or distributor violates the statute and someone is damaged, they can recover against the $10,000 bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The filing is a continuation bond renewed annually with your license; we track the statutory 09/30 renewal so it never lapses on you.

Fla. Stat. ch. 320 (DHSMV)Florida licenses recreational vehicle manufacturers, distributors, importers, and van converters through the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Division of Motorist Services, under Chapter 320 of the Florida Statutes (the licensing and franchise provisions of §§ 320.60–320.70, with § 320.771 governing RV dealers). A $10,000 surety bond is required at application and renewed annually. The bond backs compliance with Chapters 319 and 320 — confirm your category and amount on your DHSMV application.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I pay the $10,000?No. You pay $100 — set by our carrier's rate book for this bond. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability to the state and harmed parties; it's not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), Division of Motorist Services, requires it as a condition of an RV manufacturer, distributor, importer, or van converter license under Chapter 320.
Is there a credit check?A quick soft credit check may apply — never a hard inquiry, and it never affects your score. It informs approval, not price. The price stays $100 either way.
Does this cover RV dealers too? This is the manufacturer/distributor/importer/van-converter bond. RV dealers file a separate dealer bond under § 320.771. If you sell at retail, confirm which license you hold and we’ll point you to the right bond.
When does it renew? It's a continuation bond tied to the statutory 09/30 renewal date. This bond runs to September 30 whatever day you buy, and renews from that date; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
