About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Contractors who pull permits in Orlando must register with the city Permitting Services Division. State-registered contractors and limited specialty contractors must include a surety bond in that registration, and the registration lapses when the bond does. State-certified contractors register with a business tax receipt, their state certification and proof of workers compensation, and post no bond.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and the party the bond protects. You file the bond with the Permitting Services Division as part of your registration. The city registration page lists the minimum amounts but not the wording of the bond; send us your registration paperwork and we will check the bond against it.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Pricing is 1% of the amount the city set, $100 minimum — not a credit tier; we track renewals so your registration never lapses.
