About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Florida licenses mobile home dealers and brokers through the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), and conditions the license on a surety bond. It is a consumer-and-state-protection guarantee standing behind your compliance with Florida's mobile home sales and titling laws.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Florida — with the Director of the Division of Motorist Services named as obligee — plus harmed buyers as protected parties. If a dealer fails to deliver clear title, misapplies a buyer's money, or violates dealer law, the harmed party can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Under §320.77, a single dealer with four or fewer supplemental licenses posts $25,000; a dealer with more than four supplemental licenses posts $50,000 — confirm which applies on your application.

§320.77, Fla. Stat. (form HSMV 86018)Section 320.77, Florida Statutes, conditions a mobile home dealer or broker license on a surety bond filed with the FLHSMV. A single dealer with four or fewer supplemental licenses posts $25,000; one with more than four posts $50,000. The bond runs to the Director of the Division of Motorist Services on form HSMV 86018. Confirm your required amount on your license application.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Florida mobile home dealer bond? The premium is $275 flat, set by our carrier's rate book for this bond — the same for every dealer. The $25,000 bond amount is set by §320.77, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $25,000?No. You pay $275. The $25,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
When is it $50,000 instead of $25,000?Under §320.77, a single dealer with more than four supplemental licenses posts a $50,000 bond instead of $25,000. If that is you, send us your license application and we will issue the larger amount at our carrier's rate for that tier.
Is there a credit check? This application collects no credit information at all — most applications like this approve instantly.
When does it renew? The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
