Florida athlete agent bonds.
A note on the law first.

Be careful here: Florida no longer mandates the $15,000 athlete-agent bond. The bond and exam requirements under Ch. 468, Part IX became obsolete on July 1, 2002. We can still issue the $15,000 bond if a contract, school, or counterparty asks for one — but we won't imply a state mandate that no longer exists.

✓
The state bond mandate ended July 1, 2002 — current registration is application, fees, and a background check, not a bond
✓
Still issuable if a contract or third party requires it — we write the $15,000 bond at $300 flat
✓
A quick soft credit check may apply — never a hard inquiry, no impact on your score, and the price stays $300 flat either way

How it works

First, confirm you need it.

Florida's athlete-agent bond mandate is obsolete, so step one is checking whether anyone actually requires it:

FIRST

Check the requirement

Florida ended the $15,000 bond and exam requirements on July 1, 2002. If you're registering as an athlete agent, the state asks for an application, fees, and a background check — not a bond. Confirm who, if anyone, is asking for one.

IF REQUIRED · ONLINE

Apply online

If a contract, school, or counterparty requires the bond, the application is business details and an effective date, plus a one-time consent to a soft credit pull.

SAME DAY

Deliver to whoever required it

Receive the executed $15,000 bond ready to hand to the party that asked for it. Wet-ink originals mailed on request.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

Read this before you buy

Florida used to license athlete agents under Chapter 468, Part IX, and that scheme required a $15,000 surety bond in favor of the State for the benefit of any student athlete, college, or university harmed by an agent's acts. That bond backed the agent's conduct toward the athletes and schools they dealt with.

But the bond and examination requirements became obsolete on July 1, 2002. Today, registering as a Florida athlete agent means an application, fees, and a fingerprint-based background check — not a surety bond. We will not tell you the state requires this bond, because it does not.

We've kept this page honest on purpose. If a contract, university, or counterparty still asks you to carry a $15,000 athlete-agent bond, we'll write it at $300 flat. Otherwise, you likely don't need it, and we'd rather you know that.

Ch. 468 Pt. IX — bond obsolete July 1, 2002Florida's athlete-agent law (Chapter 468, Part IX) historically required a $15,000 surety bond in favor of the State for the benefit of student athletes and Florida colleges or universities harmed by an agent. Per DBPR, the examination and $15,000 surety bond requirements for licensure became obsolete effective July 1, 2002. Current registration requires an application, fees, and a criminal background check — confirm any bond is genuinely required before purchasing.

You might still want this bond if

✓
A contract requires it — a counterparty conditions an engagement on a $15,000 bond
✓
A university or athletic program asks for proof of a bond before dealing with you
✓
An out-of-state requirement applies and you're matching Florida's historical figure
✓
You carry it voluntarily as a mark of accountability, knowing the state no longer mandates it

Only if you actually need it.

These are the issuing fields, including a one-time soft credit pull. But confirm someone requires the bond first — Florida's mandate ended in 2002.

FAQ

Common questions.

Does Florida require an athlete agent bond?No — not anymore. The $15,000 bond and exam requirements under Chapter 468, Part IX became obsolete on July 1, 2002. Current athlete-agent registration in Florida requires an application, fees, and a background check, not a surety bond.
Then why is this page here?Because the bond product still exists and some contracts or institutions ask for it. We'd rather post an honest page that flags the law change than imply a mandate that ended over two decades ago.
How much would the $15,000 bond cost?If you genuinely need it, the premium is $300 flat — the price you see is the checkout price, the same for everyone. But check first whether anyone actually requires it.
What does Florida require for athlete agents now?Registration through DBPR: an application, the applicable fees, and a fingerprint-based criminal background check. There is no surety bond in the current requirements.
Is there a credit check? If you do buy the bond, a quick soft credit check may apply — never a hard inquiry, and it never affects your score. It informs approval rather than price; the price stays $300 flat either way.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
