About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A public adjuster bond is a policyholder-protection guarantee. You negotiate insurance claims on behalf of people who've just had the worst week of their year — Colorado wants a financial backstop that you'll handle their claims and their money honestly.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Colorado (the obligee), with your clients as the protected parties. If an adjuster mishandles client funds or violates adjuster law, the harmed client can recover against the bond.

The bond must stay active for the life of your license. Let it lapse and you can be referred for action against the license — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $20,000 filing continuous.

C.R.S. 10-2-417(2)Colorado Revised Statutes 10-2-417(2), together with Colorado Insurance Regulation 1-2-19, conditions a public adjuster license on a $20,000 surety bond filed with the Division of Insurance, with the bond form and power of attorney in the format the regulation defines.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Colorado public adjuster bond? The premium is $200 — set by our carrier's rate book for this bond, the same for every adjuster. The $20,000 bond amount is set by statute, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $20,000?No. You pay $200. The $20,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond?License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many adjusters finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information, and most applications approve instantly. If a check ever runs, it's a soft pull only and never affects your score.
When does it renew? The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
