Project Description: Helene Relief – Construction of Standard and Modular Bridge Replacement
at 32 Mountain Spring Lane, Candler and
48 Sage Lane, Burnsville
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety Emergency Management Division and the
Department of Transportation are requesting bids for the construction of Standard and Modular
Bridges on private roads over Stony Fork Creek at 32 Mountain Spring Lane in Buncombe
County over Bowlens Creek at 48 Sage Lane in Yancey County to be let at 2:00 PM on
Wednesday, November 18, 2026.
The date of availability for bridge construction at 32 Mountain Spring Lane is the date the
Contractor begins work, but not before January 15, 2026 and no later than July 4, 2027.
The completion date for this contract is the date that is sixty (60) consecutive calendar days after
and including the date of availability.
The date of availability for bridge construction at 48 Sage Lane is the date the Contractor begins
work, but not before January 15, 2026 and no later than July 4, 2027.
The completion date for this contract is the date that is sixty (60) consecutive calendar days after
and including the date of availability.
The contractor will remove the existing damaged bridges at 32 Mountain Spring Lane over Stony Fork Creek and at 48 Sage Lane over Bowlens Creek and construct 50-foot steel-beam with timber-deck or 60-foot modular replacement bridges with concrete caps on drilled-in piles, including foundation excavation, pile installation, Class A concrete, reinforcing steel, Type I approach fill, Class II rip rap, roadway base, drainage geotextile, seeding and mulching, and temporary erosion-control measures.
