Washington requires every electrical and telecommunications contractor to file a $4,000 bond with the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). The price is $100 flat, issued instantly — the same for every contractor. The bond issues the moment you pay — no credit review of any kind, not even a soft pull.

License bonds are the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no credit section, no follow-up scavenger hunt.
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with your Labor & Industries license application or renewal. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
Washington licenses electrical and telecommunications contractors through the Department of Labor & Industries, and conditions the license on a $4,000 surety bond. The bond is a compliance guarantee: it stands behind your obligation to follow the electrical license law in chapter 19.28 RCW and to pay penalties owed under it.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and the State of Washington (the obligee). If a contractor violates the electrical law and the bond is collected against, the surety can be called on up to the $4,000 face amount.
The bond must stay in full force for the life of your license. If a surety cancels or withdraws, L&I suspends the license until a new $4,000 bond is on file — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your filing continuous.
These are the actual issuing fields — the application collects no credit information for this bond.
