VA blanket operator bonds.
From $525. Enter your amount.

Instead of bonding each well separately, a Virginia gas or oil operator can file one blanket bond under Code of Virginia § 45.2-1633 covering all of its wells. The statute fixes the amount by well count — $25,000 for one to 10 wells, up to $200,000 for more than 200; premiums start from $525 at the $25,000 tier, with your exact price set at 2% of the bond amount plus a $25 fee, shown at the application. A quick soft credit check may apply and never affects your score.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the blanket bond actually guarantees

A blanket bond lets an operator cover all of its Virginia gas and oil wells under a single filing rather than posting a separate bond for each. It is filed with the Division of Gas and Oil under Code of Virginia § 45.2-1633 and guarantees the same thing a per-well bond does: proper plugging and surface reclamation.

The statute fixes the blanket amount by the number of wells it covers — $25,000 for one to 10 wells, $50,000 for 11 to 50, $100,000 for 51 to 200, and $200,000 for more than 200. The Division may require additional security for wells in Tidewater Virginia.

It is not insurance for you. If the Division has to plug a well or reclaim a site and recovers against the bond, you repay the surety. We write the amount the Division set with premiums starting from $525 and one quick soft credit check.

Code of Virginia § 45.2-1633Code of Virginia § 45.2-1633 (Virginia Gas and Oil Act) lets an operator file a blanket bond covering multiple wells, in an amount the statute fixes by well count: $25,000 for one to 10 wells, $50,000 for 11 to 50, $100,000 for 51 to 200, and $200,000 for more than 200. The Director may require additional security for wells in Tidewater Virginia. Confirm your blanket amount on your Division of Gas and Oil notice.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Virginia blanket operator bond?Premiums start from $525. Section 45.2-1633 fixes the blanket amount by well count — $25,000 for one to 10 wells, up to $200,000 for more than 200 — and your exact price is 2% of the bond amount plus a $25 fee, shown at the application.
How does a blanket bond differ from a single-well bond?A single-well bond covers one well (at least $10,000 plus $2,000 per disturbed acre). A blanket bond covers all of your Virginia wells under one filing, in an amount the statute fixes by well count, $25,000 to $200,000. We write both.
Who requires this bond? The Virginia Department of Energy’s Division of Gas and Oil, as a condition of your gas and oil permits under § 45.2-1633.
Is there a credit check?A quick soft credit check may apply — it’s never a hard inquiry and has no impact on your score. Your price is 2% of the bond amount plus a $25 fee — $525 at the $25,000 statutory minimum.
Can my blanket amount change?Yes. The blanket amount follows your well count — it steps to $50,000 at 11 wells, $100,000 at 51 and $200,000 above 200. When the Division moves you to a new tier, send us the notice and we re-issue at the new figure.
