A bonded importer under the Virginia Fuels Tax Act files a bond with the DMV under § 58.1-2211. Unlike most fuels licensees, bonded importers post a fixed $2,000,000 — file it on form FT462. Our carrier quotes 0.75% of the bond amount, $15,000, and your exact price is confirmed at the application.

Virginia administers the Virginia Fuels Tax Act (Code of Virginia Title 58.1, Chapter 22) through the DMV. A bonded importer imports motor fuel into Virginia on which the tax has not yet been precollected by a supplier, and must file a bond (or certificate of deposit) with the Commissioner as security.
Bonded importers are treated differently from ordinary distributors and blenders. Where most fuels licensees post three times their monthly tax liability (capped at $300,000), § 58.1-2211(A)(1) fixes the bond at $2,000,000 for bonded importers, position-holder suppliers, permissive suppliers, and terminal operators, reflecting the larger tax exposure of importing untaxed fuel.
The bonding company files the Fuels Tax Bond (form FT462) with the DMV; only that form is accepted. Our carrier quotes 0.75% of the bond amount, which is $15,000 at $2,000,000, and your exact price appears at the application. A bond this size gets a quick underwriting review.
