The City of Fort Worth Planning and Development Department requires parkway contractors to carry a bond before pouring curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways in the city. The $10,000 amount is the residential requirement; ours is $100 flat, set by our carrier's rate book for this bond. No credit check.

Municipal contractor bonds are the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That is the application. No credit check.

The City of Fort Worth Planning and Development Department registers parkway contractors — the ones who pour, construct, build, repair, and rebuild curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways within city limits — and conditions that registration on a surety bond. The $10,000 amount is the residential requirement.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Fort Worth (the obligee), with the public protected. If a parkway contractor performs defective work or violates Fort Worth ordinances, the city or a harmed party can recover against the bond, and the work is typically maintained for a period after completion.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The bond must stay active for as long as you're registered, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out.
A claim comes from the party the bond protects, the obligee named on the form, when the duty the bond guarantees is not met.
The surety investigates and pays a valid claim, up to the $10,000 bond amount. You then repay the surety: a surety bond is a guarantee of your performance, not insurance for you.
The premium covers a one-year term from the effective date you choose; a longer term is the same price per year, chosen at checkout.
Renew before the expiry date to keep the bond in force: the license, permit or contract it backs expects continuous coverage.
