What the provider bond actually guarantees
Texas regulates driving safety (defensive driving / ticket-dismissal) course providers through TDLR under Education Code Chapter 1001. A provider license is conditioned on a $10,000 surety bond, set by §1001.209 — distinct from the $10,000 main bond and $5,000 branch bonds on the driver-education side.
The bond is a student-protection guarantee. It stands behind the provider’s obligations to students — chiefly the refund of prepaid course fees if the provider fails to deliver, and compliance with the driving-safety rules and student fee requirements.
TDLR requires the bond to match the provider license, and files a wet-ink original, so we mail it to you to sign and submit. It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a student claim, you repay the surety.
