What the bond actually guarantees

The City of Cibolo requires anyone working in construction fields — including demolition contractors — to register with the Planning & Engineering Department, and conditions that registration on a $25,000 contractor license bond.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Cibolo (the obligee), with the public and your customers protected. The bond is a financial assurance that you follow the regulations of your registration and meet your obligations to clients; if a violation goes unresolved after the Cibolo Planning & Engineering Department gets involved, a claim may be filed against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The original signed and sealed bond is submitted to the Cibolo Planning & Engineering Department, and we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out so your registration stays current.

City of Cibolo — Code of Ordinances Ch. 14 (Planning & Engineering)The City of Cibolo requires contractors to register with the city before erecting, constructing, altering, repairing, moving, converting, or demolishing any building or structure (Cibolo Code of Ordinances, Chapter 14 — Buildings and Building Regulations, Art. III, Div. 2, § 14-93). Section 14-93(1)c. requires a residential contractor to file a $25,000 surety bond with the building official, payable to the city. Registration is handled by the Cibolo Planning & Engineering Department — confirm with the city whether your registration category requires the bond, and the amount and form; the city sets the terms.
