OK pawnshop license bonds.
$100 flat.

Oklahoma licenses pawnbrokers under the Oklahoma Pawnshop Act, and 59 O.S. § 1504 requires every applicant to file a $5,000 surety bond for each license with the Administrator of the Department of Consumer Credit. Ours is $100 flat, the price you see is the checkout price, and the bond issues the moment you pay. Any credit screen is a soft pull only — it never affects your score.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

The Oklahoma Pawnshop Act (59 O.S. §§ 1501–1515) puts pawnbrokers under the Administrator of the Department of Consumer Credit. Every applicant files, at the time of application, a bond satisfactory to the Administrator in the amount of $5,000 for each license, written by a surety company qualified to do business in Oklahoma — alongside a reviewed financial statement showing net assets of at least $25,000.

The statute makes the bond run to the state, for the use of the state and of any person who has a cause of action against you under the Act. In practice that means a pawn customer harmed by a violation — a mishandled pledge, an overcharge, a failure to honor a redemption — can recover against the bond, and so can the state.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The bond has to stay on file for the life of the license, so we track the term and send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out.

59 O.S. § 1504 (Oklahoma Pawnshop Act)Section 1504 requires each applicant for a pawnshop license, at the time of filing the application, to file with the Administrator a bond satisfactory to the Administrator in the amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) for each license, with a surety company qualified to do business in this state. The bond runs to the state for the use of the state and of any person or persons who may have a cause of action against the obligor under the Act.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Oklahoma pawnshop license bond? The premium is $100 flat — set by our carrier's rate book for this bond, the same for every pawnshop. The $5,000 bond amount is set by 59 O.S. § 1504, so there is no quote process, and the price you see is the checkout price.
Do I pay the $5,000?No. You pay $100. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
I have two shops. Do I need two bonds?Yes. Section 1504 requires a $5,000 bond for each license, so a second licensed pawnshop needs its own $5,000 bond at $100 flat.
Is there a credit check? If a credit screen runs on this bond, it is a soft pull only — never a hard inquiry, and it never affects your score. The price stays $100 flat either way.
Who requires the bond, and where do I file it?The Administrator of the Oklahoma Department of Consumer Credit, which licenses pawnbrokers under the Oklahoma Pawnshop Act. The bond is filed with your license application, along with the reviewed financial statement showing at least $25,000 in net assets.
