About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Oklahoma regulates credit repair and credit-improvement businesses under the Credit Services Organization Act, 24 O.S. §§ 131–148. Before a credit services organization may charge or receive money from a buyer prior to full performance of the services it sold, 24 O.S. § 133 requires a $10,000 surety bond issued by a surety company admitted to do business in Oklahoma, together with a trust account at a federally insured bank or savings and loan located in the state.

It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Oklahoma (the obligee), with buyers as the protected parties. The bond stands behind your compliance with the Act — the written contract, the information statement, and the cancellation rights every buyer is owed. A buyer damaged by a violation can recover against it.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Licenses issued by the Department of Consumer Credit run one year beginning January 1, so the bond has to stay continuously on file; we track the term and send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out.

24 O.S. § 133 (Credit Services Organization Act)Section 133 of the Oklahoma Credit Services Organization Act bars a credit services organization from charging or receiving money before its services are fully performed unless it has obtained a surety bond of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) issued by a surety company admitted to do business in Oklahoma and has established a trust account at a federally insured bank or savings and loan association located in the state. Licensing itself is administered by the Department of Consumer Credit under 24 O.S. § 141.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Oklahoma credit services organization bond? The premium is $150 flat — set by our carrier's rate book for this bond, the same for every credit services organization. The $10,000 bond amount is set by 24 O.S. § 133, so there is no quote process, and the price you see is the checkout price.
Do I pay the $10,000?No. You pay $150. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? This bond is checkout-priced, so it issues the moment you pay — your e-signed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with your Department of Consumer Credit license application.
Is there a credit check? This application carries a credit-consent section, and the screen it authorizes is a soft pull only — never a hard inquiry, and it never affects your score. The price stays $150 flat either way.
Does the bond replace the trust account? No. Section 133 pairs the $10,000 bond with a trust account at a federally insured Oklahoma bank or savings and loan association — you need both before you can collect money in advance of full performance.
