OH sewage installer bonds.
$1,200 flat. Five minutes.

Ohio requires a registered sewage treatment system (STS) installer who installs more than one system in a year to maintain a $40,000 statewide bond under ORC Chapter 3718. Ours is $1,200 flat — 3% of the bond amount, the same for every installer. No credit check.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Ohio registers sewage treatment system installers under ORC Chapter 3718 and OAC 3701-29-03 — the contractors who install household sewage and small-flow on-site treatment systems. The registration is conditioned on a statewide surety bond filed with the Department of Health.

The bond amount turns on volume: an installer of more than one STS in a year carries a $40,000 bond, while an installer of only one system a year carries a $25,000 bond. The bond provides financial security for enforcement of the registration law and protects against improper installation work.

Ohio's bonding here is statewide — the law prohibits a local health district from requiring an additional installer bond on top of this one, so a single bond covers you across the districts where you register. The bond must stay active for as long as you are registered.

ORC Chapter 3718 / OAC 3701-29-03Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3718 and Ohio Administrative Code 3701-29-03 require sewage treatment system installers to register and maintain a statewide surety bond filed with the Department of Health. An installer of more than one STS within a year carries a $40,000 bond; an installer of only one system a year carries $25,000. ORC 3718.02 bars local health districts from requiring an additional bond for this registration. Confirm which amount applies to your volume.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

Why is mine $40,000 and not $25,000? +
The $40,000 bond applies to installers of more than one sewage treatment system in a year. If you install only one system a year, you carry a $25,000 bond instead — tell us your volume and we will issue the right one.
How much is the bond? +
The premium is $1,200 — a flat 3% of the fixed $40,000 bond amount, the same for every qualifying installer.
Do I need a separate bond for each county? +
No. The installer bond is statewide. ORC 3718.02 prohibits a local health district from requiring an additional bond for this registration, so one bond covers your registrations.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Fixed-amount registration bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
STS registrations are subject to statutory renewal dates (December 31), and the bond renews on the term you select. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out.
