North Carolina regulates charitable fundraising under Chapter 131F, the Charitable Solicitation Act, administered by the Secretary of State’s Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division. A professional solicitor — someone paid to solicit contributions for a charity — must be licensed and bonded under G.S. 131F-16.
The bond is tiered to the contributions you received in the prior fiscal year: $20,000 if you received under $100,000, $30,000 for $100,000 to $200,000, and $50,000 for over $200,000. It is conditioned on the solicitor complying with Chapter 131F and shields the Department from liability arising from the solicitor’s violations.
