New Jersey requires a licensed private detective to file a $3,000 bond with the State Police Private Detective Unit under the Private Detective Act of 1939. At 3% the math comes to $90, but our minimum premium is $275 — and license bonds like this are the fastest thing we issue.

License bonds are the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no credit check section, no follow-up scavenger hunt.
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with the New Jersey State Police Private Detective Unit. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
$3,000 bond × 3% = $90, but our minimum premium is $275, so that is the price — one-time per term, multi-year if you want it.
New Jersey licenses private detectives under the Private Detective Act of 1939 (N.J.S.A. 45:19-8 to 45:19-27), administered by the State Police Private Detective Unit. The license is conditioned on a surety bond — a public-protection guarantee standing behind your compliance with the Act.
For an individual license the bond is $3,000; a detective agency license carries a larger bond (commonly $5,000). It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of New Jersey (the obligee), with the public as the protected parties.
If an investigator violates the Act and causes a loss, the harmed party can recover against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety. The bond must stay active for the life of your license, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out.
These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.
