About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the document preparer bond guarantees

Nevada's NRS Chapter 240A requires a document preparation service to register with the Secretary of State and file a cash or surety bond as a condition of registration. For a business entity, the penal sum scales with the number of registrants the business employs.

The bond is a consumer-protection guarantee: it is conditioned that the registrants perform document-preparation duties faithfully and ethically, in compliance with Nevada law. Clients harmed by a registrant's misconduct can recover against the bond, and releasing the surety does not erase claims for harm that occurred while it was in force.

This page is the tier for a business employing at least 26 but not more than 75 registrants, filed at a $75,000 penal sum. If your headcount grows past 75 or drops below 26, the required amount changes — send us your registration and we'll issue the matching bond.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is this document preparer bond? +
The premium is $2,250 — a flat 3% of the $75,000 bond required for a business with 26 to 75 registrants. The amount is set by NRS Chapter 240A, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $75,000? +
No. You pay $2,250. The $75,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
What if my registrant count changes? +
The penal sum is tiered by headcount. This $75,000 bond covers 26 to 75 registrants; if you grow past 75 or drop below 26, the required amount changes and we re-issue the matching bond. Send us your registration and we'll confirm the tier.
Is there a credit check? +
Yes — one soft credit pull, which never affects your score. It informs approval, not price: the rate is a flat 3% regardless. Credit can affect whether we approve the bond, never what it costs.
When does it renew? +
Terms run 1, 2, or 3 years — your choice at purchase. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, and the bond must stay active while your registration is active.
