About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Mississippi regulates professional and amateur combative sports — boxing, sparring, wrestling, and similar events — through the Mississippi Athletic Commission under the Amusements, Exhibitions and Athletic Events law (Mississippi Code chapter 75-75). A promoter who stages these events under the Commission's supervision must post a surety bond.

The bond is a compliance and accountability guarantee. It backs the promoter's obligations to the Commission and the participants — paying the fees and taxes owed on gate receipts, handling event funds properly, and following the rules governing the event. If a promoter fails to pay fees, mishandles gate receipts, or violates the terms of the license, a claim can be filed against the bond.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Mississippi through the Athletic Commission (the obligee). It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Promoters who run clean events treat the bond as a license formality.

Miss. Code ch. 75-75 / Mississippi Athletic CommissionMississippi's Amusements, Exhibitions and Athletic Events law (Mississippi Code §§ 75-75-101 et seq.) places boxing, sparring, wrestling, and similar matches and exhibitions under the supervision of the Mississippi Athletic Commission. The Commission's rules require a promoter to post a surety bond — commonly $5,000 — backing the promoter's compliance and the fees and taxes owed on gate receipts. The specific bond amount is set in the Commission's regulations rather than the statute itself; confirm the current amount with the Mississippi Athletic Commission.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Mississippi boxing/wrestling promoter bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. The bond amount is fixed at $5,000, and 3% of $5,000 is $150, below the $275 minimum, so the price is $275. Same for every promoter, no quote process.
Do I pay the $5,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
What does the bond guarantee? +
That you pay the fees and taxes owed on gate receipts, handle event funds properly, and follow the Athletic Commission rules for your event. If you fail to and someone is harmed, they can claim against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active while your promoter license is in effect. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your filing never lapses over a missed email.
