A peddler and solicitor bond is a consumer-protection guarantee. Door-to-door and transient sellers take orders and money from residents at their homes, so the City of Lansing wants a financial backstop that you deal honestly, deliver what you sell, and follow the City's peddler and solicitor ordinance.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Lansing (the obligee), with the residents you solicit as the protected parties. If you take a deposit and don't deliver, or otherwise violate the ordinance, a harmed customer can claim against the bond.
