MD boxing & wrestling tax bonds.
Flat 3%. Enter your amount.

A Maryland promoter of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, or MMA events must guarantee the State athletic tax on the event. Under Business Regulation Title 4, Subtitle 3, that means a tax bond — a minimum of $1,000 — so the State is paid even if the promoter isn’t. We issue it at a flat 3% with no credit check.

About this bond

What the tax bond actually guarantees

Maryland regulates professional boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and MMA through the State Athletic Commission under Business Regulation Title 4, Subtitle 3. Promoters of these events owe a State athletic tax on the event (under the Tax–General Article), and the State wants that tax guaranteed.

The boxing and wrestling tax bond backs that obligation: it ensures the State receives the tax payment even if the promoter fails to remit it. The Department of Labor administers the tax bond requirement, with a minimum amount of $1,000. This is separate from the promoter’s expense bond, which backs amounts owed to event participants.

It is not insurance for you. If the State draws on the bond for unpaid tax and the surety pays, you repay the surety. Promoters who file and pay their athletic tax on time treat the bond as a licensing formality. We issue it at a flat 3% with no credit check.

Business Regulation Title 4, Subtitle 3 (State Athletic Commission)Maryland promoters of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and MMA are licensed under Business Regulation Article, Title 4, Subtitle 3. A promoter must furnish a surety bond (Bus. Reg. §4-306), and a promoter license can be denied or revoked for failing to pay the boxing and wrestling tax under the Tax–General Article. The tax bond, administered by the Department of Labor, has a minimum amount of $1,000. Confirm your required amount with the Commission.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Maryland boxing & wrestling tax bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. The tax bond minimum is $1,000, so a minimum bond lands at the $275 premium minimum. If the State sets a higher amount, enter it and the quote updates.
What does this bond guarantee? +
That the State receives the boxing and wrestling tax owed on your event, even if you fail to remit it. It is administered by the Department of Labor and is a condition of promoting in Maryland.
Is this the same as the promoter’s expense bond? +
No — they are two different bonds. The tax bond backs the State’s tax; the promoter’s expense bond backs amounts owed to event participants. Many promoters need both, so we issue them separately.
Is there a credit check? +
No — the tax bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
Where do I file it? +
With your Maryland State Athletic Commission promoter license, in the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. We issue the executed bond ready to submit.
