The City of Louisville requires a $10,000 bond as a condition of its contractor license / registration. Ours is $300 flat — 3% of the bond amount, the same for every contractor. The application takes five minutes.

Contractor license bonds are among the simplest in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no credit check section.
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond arrives by email, ready to file with your Louisville contractor registration. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
$10,000 bond × 3% = $300, one-time per term. Fixed amount, fixed price, multi-year if you want it.
The City of Louisville registers contractors who pull permits and perform work in the city, and conditions that registration on a $10,000 surety bond. The bond is a code-compliance-and-consumer-protection guarantee that you build to code and follow the city’s contractor rules.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Louisville (the obligee), with the public and your customers as the protected parties. If you violate the city's contractor ordinance and someone is harmed, they can recover against the bond.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The bond must stay active for as long as your registration is in force, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days before expiration.
These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.
