A general contractor registering to do business in the City of Morris files a $20,000 surety bond with the city clerk under the construction-contractor registration ordinance — the highest of the city's contractor classes. Ours is $100 flat, and the price you see is the checkout price.

Contractor registration bonds are about the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no credit section, no follow-up scavenger hunt.
Registration bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with your City of Morris contractor registration application. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
The City of Morris registers construction contractors under Chapter 12, Division 10 of its Code of Ordinances. The building and zoning officer classifies each applicant into a contractor category under § 12-492 and, under § 12-495 (Bonds), requires a bond in the penal sum set for that classification — trade classes are bonded at different levels under the same program; confirm the current amount for the general contractor class with the Building and Zoning Office.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Morris (the obligee), with the city and anyone harmed by the contractor's work as protected parties. The bond is conditioned on the contractor observing the building code and other city ordinances, and on indemnifying the city against loss.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Registration runs on the city's fiscal year and expires each April 30 under § 12-493, so we track your renewal and notify you before it lapses.
These are the actual issuing fields — no credit section, because this application doesn't collect credit information.
