Litchfield Municipal Code § 111.60 requires each applicant for a liquor license or permit to file, upon acceptance of the application, a surety bond in the penal sum of $1,000, approved by the Mayor and payable to the city for the use of any person interested.
The bond binds the licensee not to violate any provision of the city's liquor regulations, and is conditioned on the prompt and full payment of any fine or penalty that becomes due for a violation. Payment of one fine or penalty does not reduce the bond's liability for future violations — the full $1,000 stands behind the license for its entire term.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim on the bond, the licensee repays the surety. It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Litchfield (the obligee), filed for the benefit of any person harmed by a violation.
