The bond indemnifies the Department for the abatement of water pollution that results from improper disposal of liquid oilfield waste by the permittee. The statute sets the bond at $10,000, covering the permit period and any renewal, written by a surety registered in Illinois.
If improper disposal pollutes state waters, the DNR can recover abatement costs against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety. The surety can cancel on 30 days written notice to the Department and the permittee, though cancellation does not affect rights that accrued before it took effect.
