About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A commercial driver training school is licensed by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), and the license is conditioned on a $10,000 surety bond. The bond is a student-protection guarantee: it stands behind the school's compliance with the laws and rules governing driver-training schools.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Georgia, with your students as the protected parties. If a school violates the driver-training rules or fails to deliver what a student paid for, the harmed party can recover against the bond.

The bond must stay active for the life of your license. Let it lapse and your license can be suspended — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $10,000 filing continuous.

O.C.G.A. § 43-13-1 et seq.Georgia's Driver Training Schools statute (O.C.G.A. § 43-13-1 et seq.), administered by the Department of Driver Services, conditions a commercial driver-training-school license on a surety bond; DDS sets the commercial-school bond at $10,000, and rule chapter 375-5-2 governs school operations. Each operating location generally requires its own bond — confirm the count on your DDS application.

You need this bond if you're

Applying for a GA driver training school license — the bond is filed with your application
Renewing your school license and your bond is expiring or your surety non-renewed
Opening an additional location that DDS ties to its own bond filing
Re-licensing after a lapse that requires a fresh bond on file

Five minutes. The whole thing.

These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Georgia driver training school bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the fixed $10,000 bond amount, the same for every school. The $10,000 is set by the Department of Driver Services, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Do I need one bond per location? +
Generally yes — DDS ties the bond to each licensed driver-training-school location. If you run more than one site, confirm the count on your application and we will issue a bond for each.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
