About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Florida licenses home medical equipment (HME) providers through the Agency for Health Care Administration under Chapter 400, Part VII, Florida Statutes. Section 400.931 conditions the license on a $50,000 surety bond as part of the application — the bond is a consumer-and-public-protection guarantee that you’ll operate within the law.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and the State of Florida together with harmed consumers (the protected parties). The bond backs your compliance with the HME minimum standards in §400.934 — and protects against acts of fraud, theft, or willful misconduct in the conduct of your business.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a valid claim, you repay the surety. The bond stays in force for the license term; we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out so your AHCA filing stays continuous.

Ch. 400, Part VII, F.S. (§400.931 / §400.934)Florida home medical equipment providers are licensed by the Agency for Health Care Administration under Chapter 400, Part VII, F.S. Section 400.931 lists the $50,000 surety bond among the license-application requirements, and §400.934 sets the minimum standards of operation the bond stands behind. The general health-care licensing provisions in Chapter 408, Part II, F.S. also apply. AHCA is the obligee — confirm the bond amount on your application package.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Florida HME provider bond? The premium is $1,000 — set by our carrier's rate book for the fixed $50,000 bond amount, the same for every provider. The $50,000 is set by statute, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $50,000?No. You pay $1,000. The $50,000 is the surety's maximum liability to the state and harmed consumers if a valid claim is made — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) requires it as part of the home medical equipment provider license application under Chapter 400, Part VII, F.S. (§400.931). It can also be required again on renewal at the Agency’s discretion.
Is there a credit check?A quick soft credit check may apply — never a hard inquiry, no impact on your score. It informs approval, not price: the premium is $1,000 either way.
When does it renew?Terms run 1, 2, or 3 years — your choice at purchase. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days before expiration, with autopay available, and the bond must stay active for your HME license to stay valid.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
