About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually covers

A business services bond is an employee-dishonesty guarantee, not a license bond. Florida does not license or register cleaning companies, maid services, handymen, pet sitters, or in-home care aides at the state level, and no Florida statute requires this bond. It exists because the people who hire you — property managers, condominium and homeowners' associations, commercial landlords, and homeowners — will not hand over a key without it.

The protected party is the client, not you. If a covered employee steals money or property from a customer's premises while working, the client makes a claim and the surety reimburses them up to the $2,500 limit on this tier. Because it is surety and not insurance, if the surety pays, you repay the surety — the bond buys your customer confidence, not your business a safety net.

Two limits are worth knowing before you buy. The coverage is written by employee headcount band — this is the tier for a business with 7 to 15 employees — so a shop that grows past fifteen should move up rather than renew as-is. And the policy does not cover volunteers or 1099 contractors you engage; if your Florida crew is mostly subcontracted labor, say so before you buy so we can write something that actually responds.

Private contractual requirement — not a Florida statuteNo Florida statute or state agency requires a business services bond. It is requested by contract: commercial cleaning specifications, vacation-rental and property-management agreements, and association vendor packets routinely ask a service vendor to be "bonded" and to name the coverage limit. The context most Florida vendors run into is community-association work — Fla. Stat. § 718.111(11)(h) requires a condominium association to maintain insurance or fidelity bonding for every person who controls or disburses association funds, and boards that have been through that exercise tend to extend the same expectation to the vendors who hold keys. The $2,500 amount here is the limit written for a 7-to-15-employee business; confirm the limit and headcount band your contract asks for and we will issue whichever tier matches.

You need this bond if you're

✓
A Florida cleaning or janitorial company bidding work whose specification says the vendor must be bonded
✓
An in-home service business — home care, maid service, handyman, pet sitting, pool and lawn service
✓
Servicing condos, HOAs, or vacation rentals where the manager holds unit keys and wants theft covered
✓
Marketing trust by advertising a bonded crew alongside your general liability certificate

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the $2,500 business services bond? The premium is $181 flat for the 7-to-15-employee tier, set by our carrier's rate book. The number you see is the number at checkout — there is no percentage calculation layered on top and no quote round-trip.
Do I pay the $2,500?No. You pay the premium. The $2,500 is the surety's maximum liability to a harmed client if a covered employee steals — it is not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Does Florida require this bond? No. Florida has no statewide license for cleaning or in-home service companies, and no statute requires this bond. It is a commercial bond that clients and contracts ask for — which is why almost every serious Florida service company carries one.
Why is it sold by employee count?Business services bonds are tiered by headcount because the exposure scales with the number of workers who enter a customer's premises. This is the tier written for 7 to 15 employees. If you have six or fewer, or your contract wants a higher limit, tell us and we will issue the matching tier.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information, so most applicants approve instantly. If a check ever runs on this bond, it's a soft pull that won't affect your score.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
