About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the tag agency bond actually covers

Arizona lets private businesses act as authorized third parties for the Motor Vehicle Division — the “tag agencies” that issue titles, registrations, plates, and related services the MVD would otherwise handle. A.R.S. § 28-5104 conditions that authorization on a surety bond running to the State of Arizona as obligee.

The bond is conditioned that the tag agency will faithfully comply with the provisions of law governing its authorization, protecting the state and the public — including the customer funds and fees the agency collects on the MVD’s behalf. It is noncancellable without at least sixty days’ prior notice to the director.

For title and registration service providers, the statute sets the bond at at least $100,000 for each location. This entry is the corporation / LLC version; there is a separate form for sole proprietors and partnerships. Enter the amount your authorization names and we issue it at a flat 3% with no credit check.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Arizona tag agency bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. Title and registration service providers post at least $100,000 per location under A.R.S. § 28-5104, so the bond starts at $100,000. Enter your figure and the quote updates.
Who requires this bond? +
The Arizona Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division, requires it of authorized third parties under A.R.S. § 28-5104. The State of Arizona is the obligee, and the bond is conditioned on your faithful compliance with the law.
Is this the right version for me? +
This page is the corporation / LLC version. If you operate as a sole proprietor or partnership, use the sole prop / partnership tag agency bond instead — the obligation is the same, but the entity field differs.
Is there a credit check? +
No — this bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
What if I have multiple locations? +
The statute sets the bond per location — at least $100,000 each. Add $100,000 for each additional location, and confirm the total on your ADOT authorization. Send it to us and we’ll issue the matching amount.
