The work includes drilling six-inch plus diameter holes to the #9 coal seam in specified order, casing holes through the soil horizon into solid competent rock with 6-inch diameter PVC pipe, using a 400-500 gallon water buffalo to flush each hole with approximately 400 gallons of water, capturing all cuttings with Non-Woven Polyethylene Geotextile Sediment Filter Bags or equivalent, and monitoring for methane. If methane is encountered, the contractor must immediately implement a plan to secure the area, which may require plugging the hole or inserting 3-inch diameter PVC casing to a minimum of 10 ft above ground elevation.
