Qualified Attorneys will be assigned to handle legal proceedings including prosecution and defense of civil litigation not handled by the Attorney General's Office, defense of litigation related to the Kansas Open Records Act and Kansas Open Meetings Act, contract and procurement-related disputes, constitutional challenges to state laws impacting the KJB, initiation and prosecution of protection order cases, employment-related matters, civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, and other legal matters as OJA deems necessary. Services include conducting factual and legal investigations, providing initial assessments and cost estimates, drafting pleadings and motions, conducting discovery, engaging experts, negotiating with opposing counsel, appearing at hearings and trials, prosecuting and defending appeals, and providing pre-litigation legal advice.
