WA pesticide applicator bonds.
From $1,000. Enter your amount.

Washington commercial pesticide applicators must show financial responsibility to the Department of Agriculture (WSDA) under the Washington Pesticide Application Act (RCW 17.21). A surety bond is one accepted option in lieu of liability insurance — RCW 17.21.170 sets the amount at not less than $50,000 for property damage and $50,000 for public liability, each separately — premiums start from $1,000, and your exact price appears at the application. The application collects no credit information at the standard amount.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the applicator bond actually covers

The Washington Pesticide Application Act (RCW 17.21) requires a commercial pesticide applicator to carry financial responsibility for damage to people, land, or property caused by pesticide use. RCW 17.21.170 lets the applicator satisfy that requirement with either a liability insurance policy or a surety bond.

When met by a bond, RCW 17.21.170 sets the amount at not less than $50,000 for property damage and $50,000 for public liability, each separately. The coverage stands behind loss or damage arising out of the actual use of a pesticide, on the terms WSDA’s director accepts — and the director must be notified ten days before the bond is reduced or canceled.

A commercial applicator license is automatically suspended under RCW 17.21.180 if the bond or insurance drops below the RCW 17.21.170 requirement, so the coverage has to stay continuous. We issue the amount WSDA requires with premiums starting from $1,000 and no credit section in the application; larger amounts may get a quick review.

RCW 17.21.170 (WSDA)Under RCW 17.21.170 of the Washington Pesticide Application Act, a commercial pesticide applicator must demonstrate financial responsibility — by liability insurance or a surety bond — for damage caused by pesticide application. The surety bond or liability insurance must be not less than $50,000 for property damage and $50,000 for public liability, each separately. Under RCW 17.21.180 the license is automatically suspended until coverage again meets the requirement, and the director must be notified ten days before any reduction or cancellation. Confirm the exact amount with WSDA.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Washington pesticide applicator bond?Premiums are 1% of the bond amount. The bond amount itself is set by WSDA (a statutory minimum of $100,000 for a commercial applicator, a $1,000 premium at minimum). Enter your required amount to see your exact price at the application.
Do I have to use a bond? No. RCW 17.21.170 gives commercial applicators a choice: a liability insurance policy or a surety bond — in either case not less than $50,000 for property damage and $50,000 for public liability, each separately. A bond can be the better fit if you already carry strong coverage or prefer not to tie up the requirement in an insurance policy.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information at the standard amount. Most applications approve instantly; if a check runs on a larger bond amount, it is a quick soft pull that never affects your credit score.
What happens if the bond lapses?Your commercial applicator license is automatically suspended under RCW 17.21.180 if the bond drops below the RCW 17.21.170 requirement. WSDA must be notified ten days before any reduction or cancellation, so we keep the coverage continuous and send renewal reminders.
Where do I file it?With the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) as proof of financial responsibility for your commercial pesticide applicator license. We issue the executed bond ready to submit.
