What it is and who needs it.
What the agreement or permit bond does
Many Washington state and local agencies condition a specific permit, license, or agreement on a surety bond. This is the general-purpose bond for those situations — an individual bond backing a single agreement or permit rather than a named license type with its own statute.
It is a three-party guarantee: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the agency (the obligee). The bond guarantees you’ll meet the conditions of that permit or agreement; if you don’t and the agency or a protected party is harmed, they can recover against the bond up to its penalty.
Because it is not tied to one statute, the amount and conditions are whatever your agency named. It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a valid claim, you repay the surety. We write the amount your agency named starting from $100, with no credit check up to $100,000 in the application; send us the permit or agreement and we’ll match the bond to exactly what the agency requires.

Claims, renewal, filing, and what sets the price.
If a claim is made
A claim comes from the party the bond protects, the obligee named on the form, when the duty the bond guarantees is not met.
The surety investigates and pays a valid claim, up to the bond amount. You then repay the surety: a surety bond is a guarantee of your performance, not insurance for you.
Renewal and term
The premium covers a one-year term from the effective date you choose.
Renew before the expiry date to keep the bond in force: the license, permit or contract it backs expects continuous coverage.
How to file it
Deliver to your agency. Submit the executed bond to the state or local agency that required it for your permit or agreement. Wet-ink originals mailed on request.
What sets the price
The premium is 1% of the bond amount, $100 minimum: the amount the obligee sets moves the price, not your business profile.
No credit check up to $100,000. Above that, the carrier may run a soft pull, which never affects your score.
Where a check runs, it decides approval; the rate is the same for everyone approved.
