Washington regulates fire sprinkler system contractors under RCW 18.160, administered by the State Patrol's Office of the State Fire Marshal. The Specialized Level U scope is narrow — installing, inspecting, repairing, and testing the underground fire-service main (NFPA 24) from the source to the base of the riser, with no design work.

The license bond is a public-protection guarantee. It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Washington (the obligee). If a certified contractor violates the licensing law and someone is harmed, the harmed party can recover against the bond.
