The City of San Antonio requires a $2,000 surety bond of moving contractors — businesses that move buildings or structures through and within the city. The bond is a public-protection guarantee that you operate within the city's rules and don't leave damage behind.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of San Antonio (the obligee), with the public and your customers protected. If a moving contractor violates the local ordinance, damages city property, or harms a customer in the course of the work, the harmed party can recover against the bond.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The bond must stay active for as long as the city requires it, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out.
