When a house or other structure is moved within the City of Dallas, TX, the Building Inspection Division's Moving Permit Application Checklist lists a house/structure moving rehabilitation bond as a required attachment, alongside the route approval, site plan, and foundation plan for the new location. The bond stands behind restoring the vacated site — clearing the lot and leaving it in the condition the city requires — once the structure is gone.
It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Dallas (the obligee), protecting the city and neighboring property from an abandoned, unrestored lot. If the site is not cleared and rehabilitated as required and the city has to step in, the city can recover its cost against the bond.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety.
