Upper Cumberland EMC deposit bonds.
From $100. Enter your amount.

Instead of tying up cash as a membership deposit with Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (UCEMC), an applicant for electric service across its Cumberland Plateau territory can post a surety bond for the same figure. UCEMC sets the deposit amount under its board deposit policy — usually sized to your estimated or recent usage — and the premium is 2% of the bond amount, $100 minimum; enter your amount in the calculator below for your exact price.

About this bond

What the utility deposit bond actually covers

Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation is a member-owned Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) power distributor serving the Cumberland Plateau region out of four district offices. Like other electric cooperatives, UCEMC can require a membership or service deposit before turning on power at a new address — sized under the cooperative's own board deposit policy, generally based on estimated or recent usage, and higher after a history of late payment. Rather than leave that cash sitting with the cooperative, UCEMC accepts a surety bond for the same amount in place of the cash.

The bond is a payment guarantee in lieu of the cash deposit: it stands behind the electric charges on your account. If the account goes unpaid and the deposit would have covered it, UCEMC can recover against the bond instead of drawing down a cash deposit.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays UCEMC, you repay the surety. The advantage is cash flow: you pay a small premium — from $100 — rather than locking up the full deposit amount. Enter the figure UCEMC set on your account notice and your exact price appears at the application.

UCEMC board deposit policyUpper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative and TVA power distributor serving the Cumberland Plateau region of Tennessee; it is not subject to Tennessee Public Utility Commission retail-rate regulation the way an investor-owned utility is. As a matter of its own membership and service policy, the cooperative requires new and reinstated members to pay a deposit before service begins, and accepts a surety bond in place of that cash deposit. The deposit amount and terms are set by UCEMC on your account — confirm the figure on your notice and we will issue the bond for it.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Upper Cumberland EMC deposit bond? The premium is 2% of the bond amount, $100 minimum. The bond amount equals the deposit UCEMC set for your account — enter it in the on-page calculator for your exact price.
Why post a bond instead of a cash deposit?Cash flow. A cash deposit ties up the full amount with the cooperative, often for a year or more before it is refunded or credited. A surety bond covers the same obligation for a small premium — 2% of the bond amount, $100 minimum — freeing your working capital.
Who sets the bond amount?UCEMC does — the bond is written for the same figure as the deposit it required on your account under its board deposit policy, typically based on estimated or historical usage. Enter that amount and we issue the bond for it.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information, and most applications issue instantly. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review — never a hard inquiry, and it never affects your credit score.
What amount should I enter? The exact deposit figure UCEMC stated on your account notice or new-service estimate. If you are unsure, call the number on that notice — the cooperative can confirm the required amount before you apply.
