What the bond actually guarantees
The City of Kingsport licenses trade contractors through its Building Division, and conditions an electrical contractor account on a $10,000 performance bond. It goes in the same packet as your TN state LLE license, business license, and a certificate of insurance naming the City of Kingsport as certificate holder.
The bond is a code-and-performance guarantee: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Kingsport (the obligee). It stands behind your compliance with the city’s electrical code and the proper performance of your permitted work within city limits.
