About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A trade contractor bond is a compliance guarantee. The City of Gallatin wants assurance that its electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical, and excavation contractors will follow the city's codes and permit conditions and won't leave damage to public property behind.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Gallatin (the obligee). If your work violates city code or damages public property, the City — or a harmed party — can recover against the bond.

The bond must stay active while you hold the trade license. Let it lapse and your authority to work in the city can be pulled — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $10,000 filing continuous.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Gallatin trade contractor bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the fixed $10,000 bond amount, the same for every contractor. The $10,000 is set by the City, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if the City makes a valid claim against the bond — not a deposit.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Contractor bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many contractors finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is this the same as the Gallatin general contractor bond? +
No — Gallatin requires a separate $50,000 bond of general contractors. This $10,000 bond is for the electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical, and excavation trades. We offer both.
When does it renew? +
The bond stays active for the term you buy — 1, 2, or 3 years. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
