RI health club franchise bonds.
$250 flat.

An Anytime Fitness franchise location in Rhode Island files a $25,000 surety bond with the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office before selling memberships that carry an initiation fee — ours is $250 flat, and the price you see is the checkout price. The application includes a credit consent, but it authorizes a soft credit pull only — a soft inquiry that never affects your score.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Rhode Island regulates sellers of health club services under R.I. Gen. Laws Chapter 5-50, administered by the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office (Consumer Protection Unit). Every seller that requires an initiation fee as a condition of a membership contract must post a surety bond at registration or re-registration, sized to the facility's permanently covered, non-court exercise and fitness area — $10,000 under 10,000 square feet, $20,000 between 10,000 and 25,000 square feet, and $30,000 above that. The bond protects members if the club fails to open or substantially fails to deliver the services it sold.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the state, acting through the Attorney General's Office (the obligee), with paying members as the protected parties. If a covered club closes early or doesn't deliver, a member with a valid claim can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. This filing carries a $25,000 penal sum specific to the Anytime Fitness franchise arrangement, distinct from the plain $10,000–$30,000 tiers set by Chapter 5-50 for a standalone club. We track your term and notify you 60 and 30 days out to keep the filing continuous.

R.I. Gen. Laws § 5-50-3 — RI Attorney General's OfficeR.I. Gen. Laws § 5-50-3 requires every seller of health club services that conditions a membership contract on an initiation fee to obtain a surety bond and present proof of it at registration or re-registration; under § 5-50-1 and § 5-50-2, that filing is made with the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office (Consumer Protection Unit). The statute grades the amount by the facility's permanently covered, non-court exercise and fitness area: $10,000 under 10,000 square feet, $20,000 between 10,000 and 25,000 square feet, and $30,000 above 25,000 square feet. Chapter 5-50 does not itself set a $25,000 tier, so this listing's amount reflects our carrier's specific Anytime Fitness franchise filing — confirm with your franchise agreement or the Department which figure your location's registration calls for, and we'll issue whichever applies.
