OR sewage pumper bonds.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the pumper bond actually guarantees

Oregon requires a license to perform sewage disposal services under ORS 454.695, and the application must include a bond under ORS 454.705. The Environmental Quality Commission sets the amount by rule: $5,000 for a pumper-only license, and $15,000 for installer or pumper/installer licenses.

The bond is in favor of the State of Oregon and is conditioned that, in performing sewage disposal services, you comply with ORS 454.605 to 454.755 and the Environmental Quality Commission's rules. A pumper services and maintains onsite systems — emptying septic tanks and hauling the contents to an approved site.

If you violate the sewage disposal rules and harm someone, they can recover against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety. The bond should be issued to your exact registered business name. We write the $5,000 pumper bond at $275 with no credit check.

ORS 454.705 / OAR 340-071-0600Under ORS 454.695 and 454.705, a sewage disposal service license requires a bond in favor of the State of Oregon in an amount set by the Environmental Quality Commission by rule. OAR 340-071-0600 sets $5,000 for a pumper-only license and $15,000 for installer or pumper/installer licenses, conditioned on compliance with ORS 454.605 to 454.755 and the Commission’s rules.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Oregon sewage pumper bond? +
The premium is $275. Three percent of the $5,000 pumper-only bond is $150, but our minimum premium is $275 — so this bond is $275 per term, the same for everyone.
What's the difference between pumper and installer bonds? +
A pumper-only license carries a $5,000 bond; installer and pumper/installer licenses carry a $15,000 bond. This page is the $5,000 pumper-only bond — if you install systems too, you need the $15,000 version.
Do I pay the $5,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made — it's not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
Whose name goes on the bond? +
Your exact business name as registered with the Oregon Secretary of State. DEQ matches the bond to your license, so the names have to agree — double-check it on the application.
