About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the permit bond actually covers

Oklahoma lets carriers move oversize and overweight loads on permit accounts rather than paying for each trip up front. The Department of Public Safety Size and Weight Permit Division administers these accounts, and conditions a billed account on a surety bond.

The bond must be posted in an amount sufficient to cover your monthly permit billing, with a minimum of $5,000, and the surety must be approved by the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner to do business in the state. It is filed on a form prepared by the Department of Transportation, with the completed original submitted to ODOT for final approval.

The bond guarantees payment of the permit fees and any expenses your account owes, and backstops the state against damage from fraudulent or negligent oversize movements. If the surety pays, you repay the surety — it is not insurance for you. We issue your required amount at a flat 3% with no credit check.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Oklahoma size and weight permit bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. The amount itself must be sufficient to cover your monthly permit billing, with a $5,000 floor — a $5,000 bond lands at our $275 minimum, and the premium scales up from there. Enter your amount and the quote updates.
How is the bond amount set? +
It is set sufficient to cover your monthly permit billing, never below $5,000. As your oversize/overweight volume grows, the required amount can rise with it — confirm your figure with the DPS Size and Weight Permit Division.
Is there a credit check? +
No — the permit bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
Which form do I file? +
A form prepared by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. We issue the executed bond on that form, and you submit the completed original to ODOT for final approval of your permit account.
What does the bond guarantee? +
Payment of the permit fees and expenses on your account, and protection of the state against damage from fraudulent or negligent oversize movements. If the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety.
