NC alcohol transportation bonds.
$275. Five minutes.

North Carolina requires a carrier transporting spirituous liquor into, within, or through the state to file a $1,000 bond with the ABC Commission. Three percent of $1,000 is only $30, so this one lands at our $275 minimum — and the application is five minutes with no credit check.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

North Carolina controls spirituous liquor tightly, and a carrier that hauls it into, within, or through the state needs a commercial transportation permit from the ABC Commission. The bond is the financial backstop on that permit — a guarantee that you'll transport and deliver the liquor lawfully and not divert it.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of North Carolina through the ABC Commission (the obligee). If liquor is unlawfully diverted or the transportation laws are violated, the state can recover against the bond.

The bond applies to spirituous liquor only — beer and wine carriers don't post it. It's a small fixed amount, and we track it so your permit stays continuous. If the surety ever pays a claim, you repay the surety; carriers who run clean treat it as a permit formality.

G.S. 18B-1115North Carolina General Statutes 18B-1115 governs the transportation of spirituous liquor and conditions a commercial transportation permit on a $1,000 surety bond filed with the ABC Commission, guaranteeing lawful transportation and delivery. No bond is required to transport beer or wine. Confirm your permit terms with the ABC Commission.

You need this bond if you're

A motor carrier hauling spirituous liquor into, within, or through North Carolina
Applying for an ABC transportation permit — the bond is filed with the permit
A common or contract carrier adding distilled-spirits freight to your lanes
Renewing or reinstating a permit after a lapse in your transportation bond

Five minutes. The whole thing.

These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the North Carolina alcohol transportation bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. The bond amount is a fixed $1,000 by statute, and 3% of that ($30) falls under our $275 minimum, so every carrier pays the same $275.
Do I pay the $1,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $1,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Do beer and wine carriers need this bond? +
No. The bond applies to carriers transporting spirituous liquor (distilled spirits). Carriers hauling only beer or wine do not post the transportation bond under G.S. 18B-1115.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount bonds like this one don't need one.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Small fixed bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many carriers finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
